Gifted Student Sponsorship

Becoming a Gifted Student Sponsor (GSS) will give you the opportunity to connect with and follow the progress of a Gifted Student (GS). You will have first-hand experience of how your contribution is making a difference in the life of a gifted child who due to extreme poverty would otherwise be unable to go to school.

How Can I Sponsor A Student?

Click                       to see gifted children who are currently in need of student sponsorship. To sponsor a student and set up your online payment click                     or request more information about sponsorship through our                     form.

How do I send correspondence to my sponsored student?

In an effort to streamline sponsor correspondence, LIL accepts letters through our website form or through email so your words of encouragement can be quickly and cheaply forwarded to sponsored students:

  • Write an email to your sponsored student. Be sure to include the student’s full name as the subject of the email. Also, include your full name as a signature on the email.

  • Submit your letter through our website form or send an email to info@liveinlightministries.org

  • We will forward your message to the appropriate contact in Uganda who will print the letter for delivery to your gifted student.

  • If you prefer to send a handwritten letter, you may scan your letter and send it to us via email to be printed and delivered to your student but this process may take a few weeks to a couple of months before it reaches your student.

  • Because the students work with teachers and volunteers to draft their letters, they will respond to your e-mail via handwritten letter that will be emailed to you.

Can I send gifts to my sponsored student?

Though not required, special gifts are welcomed for students to celebrate special days like birthdays, graduation, Christmas or Easter. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of shipping packages to Africa and the unreliability of the postal service, it is not economically sustainable to send gifts in the mail. We have a list of items and costs for several items that make wonderful gifts for students living in poverty conditions that can be purchased in Africa.

Click                     to send a gift donation for your sponsored student or email info@liveinlightministries.org for more information.  Include the first and last name of your Gifted Student on the donation page or your information request.

Gift examples include:

  • a solar charging lamp

  • shoes

  • a bicycle

  • clothing

  • a family meal for Christmas

  • chickens, goat, pig or cow

  • we can arrange for the purchase of special items by request

Can I visit my sponsored student?

Sponsors are welcomed and encouraged to visit their Gifted Students in Uganda. Live in Light Ministries hosts mission trips each year during which a special visit can be scheduled between the sponsor and child.  With plenty of advance notice, we are also happy to help coordinate a visit for a sponsor who is traveling to Uganda outside of the LIL mission trips.
