Precious lives in Jjingo Village, Uganda with her mother. Her father passed away before she was born in a motor vehicle accident. After her father died, Precious' paternal grandparents forced her mother to return to her family. Precious' mother cares for her but is unable to pay school fees. Her mother sometimes fills in as a substitute teacher to pay for school fees but only occasionally because she has not been trained as a teacher.

 

Educational Information - Precious is extremely bright with the potential to do very well in school. When she does get to attend school, English is her favorite subject.

Esther Faith lives in Jjingo Village Uganda with her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and a cousin. Her father is the pastor of Amazing Grace Church, a small but growing church in the very rural village. He has small crops and chickens to help provide for the family as the church members are currently only able to provide him with very little financial support. Her mother has recently taken a job working as a teacher that requires her to be away from the family Monday through Friday. Unfortunately, the income is not enough to consistently pay for school fees. 

 

Educational Information - When she is able to attend, Esther Faith likes school and her favorite subject is Math.

Health - Esther Faith has difficulty hearing and is believed to be deaf in one ear. Due to a lack of finances, her hearing has not been checked by a doctor.

Timothy lives in Jjingo village, Uganda with grandmother and two brothers. His father died when he was a baby but the details are uncertain. He has not seen his mother since she left him with his grandmother when he was two years old. His grandmother is a peasant farmer who cares for the family as much as possible but is weak and recently been ill.

 

Educational Information: Timothy's grandmother and aunt have tried to raise money to send him to school but he has repeatedly been unable to take end of term exams, which are required to progress to the next level, because of outstanding debts with the school.

Doreen lives in Jjingo Village, Uganda, with her mother and stepfather who are both peasant farmers, 1 brother and 4 sisters. Her father died in Rwanda after a long illness. After struggling to provide for the children in Rwanda, her mother relocated to marry Doreen's stepfather in Uganda. Her stepfather is frequently absent from the home but is adamant that when school fees are available, they should be used for his natural children rather than Doreen. She attends the Amazing Grace Church in Jjingo.

 

Educational Information - Doreen's favorite subject is English. Pastor Paul says that Doreen is a sweet and intelligent girl. She reportedly did well in school in Rwanda but lacks financial support she needs to go to school.

Health - Doreen has vision concerns but her mother has been unable to pay for her to have her eyes checked by a doctor.
